Admire Mural Cherished
Museum Mural in the Buitenhof district
Do
Always visible on one end of the Haydnflat building, Buitenhof, Delft
This mural was realized through a collaboration involving the Museum Prinsenhof Delft, the CANIDREAM foundation and artist BEYOND. A mural on the theme ‘to cherish’ on one end of the Haydnflat building in the Buitenhof district of Delft.
What do you cherish?
Together with artist BEYOND and the CANIDREAM foundation, the museum engaged in conversation with the Buitenhof community on the question, ‘What do you cherish?’ This conversation was followed up on during a visit to the museum. In Cherished, BEYOND was able to beautifully express visually the collected stories and combine them with the collection of Delft earthenware he had seen at the museum. He said the following about this:
“This mural was inspired by conversations I had with people from the community during a visit to the museum. Although the residents have diverse cultural backgrounds, they have many values in common, like family, shared meals, caring for each other, dreams and nature.
In my painting, hands are central – all hands of the residents themselves. These hands hold the building they live in. The mural is an ode to the power of community, the beauty of diversity and the shared values uniting us.”
Members of the community also helped to execute the mural. On the rear façade of the building and on the concrete benches in the park in front of it, many people from Delft contributed to the artwork under the guidance of BEYOND and his partner Laxmi.
This mural is part of the Delft Perspective, the co-creation programme of the Museum Prinsenhof Delft, and the NOBIS Community Art project of the CANIDREAM foundation.
